Movie Pulse of "The Brand New Testament"

This is a movie which perfectly depicts the dilemma:

A pulse graph will not obviously tell if the film has been loved by you.

This movie is hilarious - I deeply loved it.

And here we go with Star Wars

Unfortunately, I went to the cinema in the afternoon, when I usually have my energy drop.

The movie which gave me the kick

The idea for this app has been kept, stored in notes, put aside. Summer came, summer left. Another app needed an update, illness, laptop stolen, such things.

Then something happened to my: I saw a movie which got hyped all over Europe. Exaggeration, words of praise, few of blame. In such times I tend to avoid those movies. At least I try not to read and hear about it. I managed it.

And the I saw "Victoria" - spontaneous, unprepared and unspoiled. It worked, I went with those naiv adolescent night strollers in realtime without editing through their story. And I promise: I am sure, my heart beat never ever run that fast.

I knew instantly: drop everything else, make Movie Pulse work!

Thank you so much, Sebastian Schipper, for directing this fine piece of film history.

One note of watching movies and measuring heart rates in parallel: too bad - this will work in such intensity only the first time...

Submitted

As always: submission to the iTunes Connect review process has been just-in-time. I am thankful of Google, because one submits far less than writing code…

These are the facts what went wrong or needed to postponed to the next version:

  • Social Media sharing with Facebook allows no text nor image
  • Link for sharing the app is broken
  • Could not make notifications work - which would be handy to get a reminder after 1h30, 2h and always stop after 3h

And to be honest: I would have loved to make the Star Wars movie as the default one with my graph.

My first Movie Pulse

Today I watched my first movie with the preliminary Version of Movie Pulse. Funny enough: I had to construct a temporal storage solution. The idea, the app might be ready to use, came 2h before the movie...

 James Bond 007 - Spectre
This is the reason this movie is chosen as the default one inside Movie Pulse (besides the fact I had no time watching movies while making the app).

When it started

Developing such thing as Movie Pulse came to my mind quite early this year. And just before summer I registered the app and domain. The purpose of the app has always been very clear, straight forward: watch a movie, record your heart rate, store the movie along with a descriptive visualization of what happened to you in terms of positive stress.

And of course this came to mind of other scientists - one example is this work analyzing 50 male students watching "The Silence of the Lambs" see page 35 ff., Induction of emotional arousal in laboratory experiments by Michael Myrtek in "Heart and Emotion: Ambulatory Monitoring Studies in Everyday Life".

But this would be different: a small everyday device will be the companion and do the work.
